Workin' It Out

Jekima and friends break a sweat in steamy South Carolina-hiking, playing soccer, dancing and doing yoga-all to find out, "what's the best exercise for me?" EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES: The program models the scientific inquiry process and presents key concepts in personal health. Four girls team up with a physical activity epidemiologist to develop an investigation that compares four different physical activities: hip hop dance, walking, soccer, and yoga. The girls use tools, including an accelerometer to mathematically compare the difficulty and likeability of the four activities. After completing the activities, they analyze their data and find a correlation between likeability and difficulty. They conclude that the activities with the highest likeability rating were also the activities with the highest difficulty rating! Participating in these activities is the best way for them to stay physically active and enjoy it.
