Discovering Alabama

SERIES INFO | DAILY SCHEDULE | PROGRAMS A-Z

Delta Revisited

More than 20 years ago Discovering Alabama visited the Mobile-Tensaw Delta to explore its natural diversity and examine prevailing environmental concerns including the near extinction of the American alligator. In Delta Revisited, host Dr. Doug Phillips retraces his Delta canoe trek of more than 20 years ago, again celebrating the natural wonders of the area and this time encountering hundreds of alligators, as he highlights Alabama's successful efforts in gaining protection for much of the Delta. The program recounts the remarkable story of many organizations coming together in cooperation with the Alabama Forever Wild Program to secure permanent wildland status for roughly 110,000 acres of the Delta. Also featured is the newly-built, world-class nature center, Five Rivers: Alabama's Delta Resource Center, that today serves as a gateway to Delta adventure for school groups, boaters, and the interested public.
