Janice Kluge
The sculptor Janice Kluge of Birmingham creates a spiritual environment for the viewer. D'a de los Muertos, II is influenced by symbols found in home altars, artwork and nighttime graveside rituals of the Mexican Day of the Dead ceremony, a celebration to honor the souls of the departed. In the installation, crosses, a formal portrait, retablos and votives are placed on a wall behind a central cleric's chair, a symbol for authority.
