Tuskegee University recently hosted a conference looking at how to rebuild the Gulf Coast. The conference comes five months after Hurricane Katrina and Rita hit those areas. The conference brought together government agencies on the federal, state and local levels, private businesses, industry leaders, and academic professionals. The conference looked at ways to rebuild the coastal homes and businesses. Part of the discussion focused on ways to build structures to better withstand storms. The hope is that smart planning will make it possible to improve the area’s ability to remain a place for people to live and work even in the face of hurricanes. Alabama @ Work also examines hurricane recovery efforts on Alabama’s coast.
