Alabama Senate Deputy President Pro-Tem Wendell Mitchell will be our newsmaker guest following the opening week of the 2008 Legislative Session. Mitchell is a Democrat, but told the Montgomery Advertiser recently: “I'm proud to be a Democrat, but I check that party mantle at the door of the Senate. I am very appreciative to have support from my Democrat friends and my Republican friends”. The Alabama GOP is not quite as happy…two Autauga County Republican elected officials who supported Mitchell for re-election have been told by GOP Party officials they will not be allowed to run for re-election as Republicans.
