Christmas Trees Alabama has more than one thousand acres of Christmas trees on some, and some thirty-four thousand trees were harvested. There are some one hundred Christmas tree farms in the state, and farmers say the demand is growing for real trees. Also, Auburn University Economics Professor Keivan Deravi talks about Alabama’s economic outlook, and Alabama Development Office Director Neal Wade will discuss bringing jobs to the state. |

Honda's 1 Millionth Vehicle Honda celebrated the production of its 1 millionth Alabama built vehicle. The company produced the landmark vehicle in its fifth year in the state. The company says the milestone shows they made the right decision to come to Alabama. Alabama @ Work examines Honda’s accomplishments in the state. Also this week, The Birmingham International Auto show features both foreign and domestic automakers. The auto show gives people a chance to see the latest models and in some cases test drive certain vehicles. |

Hoover Goes Ethanol, Applied Data Trends, Derrick Copeland The City of Hoover has a fleet of vehicles running on ethanol. President Bush visited the city to learn how the project is working. “Alabama @ Work” updates what the city is doing. There are also plans for Alabama to develop more E-85 and Bio-diesel stations. Applied Data Trends started as a virtual company. The company was the 2005 Technology Small Business of the Year by the Huntsville Chamber of Commerce. The firm provides software and other information technology products for the military. The applications help improve operations and help different systems, people, and hardware work together. The firm does work for the following companies Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, CSC, Boeing, SAIC, Raytheon, General Dynamics, Teledyne Solutions, and CAS. Derrick Copeland, ADT Chief Executive Officer, talks about the company. The Huntsville Madison County Chamber of Commerce recently named Copeland Entrepreneur of the Year. |

The Cattle Industry How has the drought impacted Alabama’s cattle industry? Alabama Cooperative Extension System Economist James “Walt” Prevatt will discuss what lies ahead for Alabama’s 2 billion dollar cattle industry. One farmer in North Alabama has cut out the middle man when it comes to providing beef for consumers. David and Julie Lee raise process, and sell their meat. They discuss how the practice started. In addition to weather reducing crop production, farmers must also worry about theft and other crimes. Farmers and law enforcement officials talk about efforts to deter crimes against agriculture. |
