Dugger Mountain Wilderness

This program follows the effort spearheaded by a group of citizen environmentalists who, together with caring governmental officials, secured federal wilderness designation for Dugger Mountain in Northeast Alabama. Dugger Mountain is Alabama's second highest peak and comprises roughly 9,000 acres of remote woodlands imbued with many wild and unique qualities, including a newly discovered species of aquatic invertebrate.
