Discovering Alabama

SERIES INFO | DAILY SCHEDULE | PROGRAMS A-Z

Fort toulouse/jackson

Alabama's pre-statehood history comes alive when Dr. Doug Phillips explores the fort during the annual Frontiers Days Festival. The annual Frontier Days Festival at the fort gives us a chance to witness life in 17th- and 18th-century Alabama, as more white men poured into the state from the east, north and south and began shaping the land in new directions. We'll meet Alibamous Indians, French soldiers, Davy Crockett, and Andrew Jackson's regiment, and we'll converse with 18th-century botanist William Bartram.
