How do I make a bid for an item?

The APT auction is just like any other eBay auction, except that Alabama Public Television gets 100% of your donation. If you do not have an eBay account, you can register for one fairly quickly.

How long do items stay up?

We keep the item up on eBay for 10 days.

Why are you doing this auction?

When we were watching the debut of our latest documentary Alabama Craft-Tradition & Innovation, we were all struck by the care and craftsmanship of these artists. Everyone in the room wanted to own a piece of their work. So we went to each of these Alabama artisans and asked them to donate a signature piece- A Gene Ivey fiddle, a Mozell Benson Quilt - for APT to auction as a fundraiser. Every artist featured in the film agreed…and several asked other artists to join in. Thus the APT Alabama Art Auction was born.

Where does the money go?

Education is the mission of Alabama Public Television - in the classroom, in the home...and on the air. All of the funds raised will go to support the education mission of Alabama Public Television, and help us continue to make films like Alabama Craft. Our documentaries use the medium of television to teach us about our history and our heritage and while rewarding can also be expensive to produce. These funds will help us develop educational materials for this and other films. Those materials will be available on APTPlus - our free, online, multimedia educational site.

How much of my bid goes to APT?

All of the money raised from the Alabama Art Auction will go to support APT. For tax purposes, any winning bids over and above the market value of the art will be a tax-deductible charitable donation.
