Slowdown in the Alabama Senate

Premiere Date:Friday, May 18, 2007

State Senator Bradley Byrne is preparing to leave the deadlocked Alabama Senate for another post dealing with a troubled agency. Byrne is about to assume the title of Chancellor for the Alabama Department of Post-Secondary. The agency manages the state’s 2-year college system and there are ongoing investigations into the operations of different schools. The system has also received criticism for the number of lawmakers working for the system. Bryne leaves a Senate unable to past legislation because of an ongoing battle over operating rules. Bryne is part of the minority slowing down action in an attempt to get rule changes they believe will allow them fair representation. Sen. Bryne will discuss his old and new jobs with Butler Cain of WUAL-FM Tuscaloosa, Michele Gurlock of the “Andalusa Star News, and Eileen Jones from WSFA-TV Montgomery.
