The Supreme Court Building

Original Air Date: 3/27/2007

A building in which The Alabama Supreme Court deliberated for a half-century may be torn down to make way for parking near the Alabama State Capitol. The structure was built in 1926 as a Scottish Rite Temple. It became state property and home to the Supreme Court because of financial upheaval during The Great Depression. Alabama Public Television will explore the curious history of the building, including an eerie tour of its decaying interior with a retired Supreme Court Justice. Following the documentary, we’ll take viewer calls for a panel of guests who are experts in the preservation of historic buildings.
