The Sword Episode Number: 123 The Sword is an American heavy metal band that formed in Austin, Texas in 2003. The band was formed by vocalist and guitarist J. D. Cronise, who enlisted the help of guitarist Kyle Shutt, bassist Bryan Richie and drummer Trivett Wingo. The band are known for the appearance of their song "Freya" in the video game Guitar Hero II. Their lyrics often deal with Norse mythology, and several of their songs are inspired by the novels of George R.R. Martin  CC.
