Calling All Writers and Illustrators in Alabama (K-3)!
Alabama Public Television encourages children in kindergarten through third grade to get creative and take part in the 2012 PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest. Children can write about any subject they choose – fiction or non-fiction – in poetry or prose, and then create pictures to go along with their story.
Each child’s participation will be recognized with a certificate, and state winners in each grade level will receive special prizes and the chance to move on to the national competition. National winners will be recognized with a variety of prizes including tablet computers and e-readers.
Alabama Public Television’s writing contests with Reading Rainbow and PBS Kids have inspired thousands of young authors in Alabama during the last fifteen years and several have become national contest winners. See past winning entries.
World-famous children’s author Charles Ghigna of Birmingham – who wrote APT’s children’s book The Magic Behind the Screen – will be among the judges for Alabama entries. Ghigna, who has written more than 50 award-winning books and 5,000 poems himself, has helped judge the contest in the past and says he always looks forward to the incredibly creative work he sees in the entries.
Download contest rules and entry form and submit them with your child’s book. Deadline for entries is March 15. State winners will be notified in April and their books will then advance to the national level. National winners will be announced and national prizes will be awarded in summer 2012.
