A MESSAGE FROM FILMAKER KEN BURNS
Thornton Dial

As you may have heard, I have a new film--The War--coming to APT on September 23. I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you a little more about the film and my commitment to PBS. View the schedule for The War on APT.

Only PBS has afforded me the opportunity to delve deeply into American history and explore the heart and soul of our country, telling some of our remarkable stories in programs like The Civil War, Baseball and Jazz.

Only PBS has consistently provided, with modest resources, an alternative to the vast wasteland of television, and has inspired me to make a personal commitment to produce documentary films exclusively for public television for the next fifteen years.

Only PBS will bring you The War, a seven-part series which explores the most intimate human dimensions of the greatest cataclysm in history — a worldwide catastrophe that touched the lives of every family on every street in every town in America — and demonstrates that in extraordinary times, there are no ordinary lives.

Only APT tells the extraordinary American stories in Alabama, and inspires you to be more, do more, and know more in your community.

Only you can join me in making your own personal commitment to public television. I urge you to support APT with a generous charitable contribution this month as they conclude their fiscal year and prepare to bring you an extraordinary fall season.

Sincerely,

Ken Burns
