The term “green” refers to environmental awareness and actions to preserve environmental quality such as recyclable, biodegradable and nonpolluting. The issue of global warming is directly related to the “greenhouse” gases emitted into the atmosphere as a result of the success or failure to control the pollutants created by our daily use of products, services and energy in general. Going “green” illustrates ways of improving the quality of life on planet Earth by focusing on energy efficiency, conservation and reuse of our resources.
Alabama has been rated the 3rd worst “green” state in the nation by Forbes magazine. This designation is attributed in part to excessive driving, massive landfills, and weak regulations. The government and citizens of Alabama are addressing these issues in a myriad of ways as detailed in interviews with subject experts, government and business leaders, advocacy organizations and citizens statewide.
