Young Women, Young Men and Marriage

Video Overview
UAB graduate student Christel Carlisle discusses her research project about social change in Fiji. Historically, women were brought to the Fijian island of Nayal to marry the male residents. However it is becoming more common for young women to marry men from other islands or move to the big island, taking jobs and living independently. As a result, the island of Nayal has many more young men than young women. Christel interviewed women of various ages to try to understand the factors related to these social changes. >
