All About the Young Heroes Program

Who can be nominated?
Any 9th through 12th grade student who resides in Alabama (who is not over 18), and currently attends an Alabama public, private, or parochial school.

How do I nominate someone?
Please visit our nominate a hero page and download and print our nomination form. The child's parent or guardian must give permission for the nomination, along with permission for APT to use the child's name and/or likeness on television, print, internet, and all other forms of media in the event they are selected. Nomination forms can also be obtained from schools, and Books-A-Million outlets, or by calling APT at (800) 239-5233 Ext 123.

What is the criteria for selecting the honorees?
The Young Heroes board is looking for those students who have excelled in academics, given of themselves through public service, overcome adversity, or inspired others through their deeds and strength of character.

Who is the Young Heroes Board?
The Young Heroes Board includes members of the Rotary Club of Birmingham and other community members.

How many students will be honored?
At least 5 students will be honored this year.

What do honored students receive?
Those students who are selected as Young Heroes will be profiled on Alabama Public Television's Young Heroes documentary, as well as receive scholarship money and prizes. Students will also be honored at a special awards ceremony.

What is the Young Heroes Documentary?
APT is producing a special feature on the Young Heroes program that will profile the award winners as well as include footage from the actual award ceremony.
