American Village Revolutionary Summer

The summer program consists of a daily schedule of historical vignettes scheduled every 30 minutes. Visitors may interact with people of the past such as Patrick Henry or Dolley Madison. You may even be conscripted into George Washington’s Continental Army! An outline of the specific revolutionary events of the day are listed on the back. You may choose one or all programs throughout the day from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Program dates: June 3-7; 10-14, 17-21; 24-28; July 1, 2; 8-12; 15-19; August 5-9; 12-16; 19-23; 26-28 Program Fee: $8.50

Henri's Notions at Local Color

Alabama's terrific Celtic music band, Henri's Notions, appears at Local Color on Main Street in Springville, Alabama. From soft fingerpicked ballads to hard-driving jigs and reels, Henri’s Notions creates a musical mix of traditional Celtic and American music as well as their own compositions that have a rhythm and voice reflective of their Southern heritage. Great American Backyard Campout

TAKE A CHILD OUTDOORS! On June 22, 2013, thousands of people across the nation will gather in their backyards, neighborhoods, communities and parks to take part in a one-night FREE event that will provide an experience for all generations to connect with nature. Be a part of the movement! The positive effects of daily, unstructured time outdoors on kids’ health are well-documented and wide-ranging. National Wildlife Federation encourages families and friends to Be Out There™ in order to give back to American children what they don’t even know they’ve lost — their connection to the natural world.

Stone Tools with Flintknapping

Park Ranger Larry Beane will teach flint chipping from 10 AM to 3:30 PM, Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Little River Canyon National Preserve. We are scheduling sessions in the morning and afternoon, breaking for lunch at 11:30 to 12. The program will be at the Little River Canyon Center on Alabama Highway 35. Come learn to make stone tools like the ones made thousands of years ago. Most people will go home with a new or improved skill, a cutting tool, scraping tool, and a recognizable projectile point.
