Parenting Counts In Alabama

Ready To Learn Announces Exciting New Partnerships

Ready To Learn has received a grant from Talaris Research Institute to bring Parenting Counts: A Focus on Early Learning to Alabama parents and early care/education professionals! Parenting Counts is a multimedia program that uses a series of television spots, printed material and workshops to make the research on best parenting practices part of every day parenting decisions. Through a partnership with PBS, Parenting Counts reaches thousands of parents in 40 communities across the country.

With funding from Talaris, the Education Staff of APT will host a state-wide Parenting Counts Train the Trainer event during 2007 for Early Childhood Mentors and Trainers working with Early Head Start at the University of Alabama Birmingham and with the Child Care Quality Enhancement Contract Agencies throughout the state. Upon completion of the training, these professionals will be able to offer Parenting Counts workshops to the parents and child care professionals they serve.

Through the grant funding, an Education Specialist from APT, will bring Parenting Counts information and resources to teen mothers enrolled in the Young Mothers’ Programs in the Birmingham City School District.

Each day on Alabama Public Television, Parenting Counts television spots bring current and vital parenting information to Alabama citizens.
