Ready to Learn

Ready to Learn Services

Right From Birth and Going To School

All children are ready to learn at birth, but are the adults who care for them and educate them ready? For example, How do babies’ brains develop? Why is this information so important? What can parents and early care/education personnel do to help support and optimize all areas of child growth and learning? APT’s two parent education series, Right From Birth and Going To School, based on the research of Drs. Craig and Sharon Ramey, answer these important questions. Through distance learning courses on APT and face-to-face workshops with Educational Specialists, adults gain knowledge and learn practical strategies and skills to ensure that every child in Alabama stays “Ready To Learn.” For more information, contact Caroline Ryals at 800-239-5233 or cryals@aptv.org

Ready To Learn

Early Care and Education continue to draw national attention. Mounting research clearly demonstrates the powerful influence high quality early care and education have on the long-term health and success of children. It is equally clear that healthy and successful children equate to healthy and successful communities.

Ready To Learn services help to prepare children for success in school through the reach of Public Broadcasting.  Using educationally sound PBS Kids Programs, with accompanying Web and print content, RTL provides support, resources, and trainings to parents, child care providers, and early education teachers in such areas as: media literacy, child development, language development, health, diversity, conflict resolution, and school readiness. Educational Specialists from the Child Care Management Agencies of Alabama partner with APT’s Ready To Learn staff to provide the above services directly to the families, child care providers and teachers they serve in their CMA region. For more information, contact Tiffany Conner at 800-239-5233 or tconner@aptv.org

Ready To Lead In Literacy
Between the Lions

The Alabama Reading Initiative (ARI) has received national attention as an exemplary statewide K-12 initiative designed to significantly improve reading instruction and ultimately achieve 100% literacy among public school students.

To support this work, APT has created Ready To Lead In Literacy, a new 2006 RTL initiative specifically focusing on the literacy development of young children. A series of face-to-face workshops for parents, early care providers, and early education teachers bring the latest research, skills, and strategies for supporting young emergent readers and writers. For more information, contact Niki McKinney at 800-239-5233 or nmckinney@aptv.org
