Parent Registration Initiative in Mobile

Recommended for First Grade to Twelfth Grade

Under the leadership of Rhonda Allen, Technology Resource Teacher, the Mobile County Public School District sponsored a contest for teachers to register parents in APTPLUS, APT’s FREE online, multimedia, educational content web site.  Contest winners received a free flip camera provided by the Mobile County Public School District. Through registration in APTPLUS, parents receive free access to the same wealth of educational content in the APTPLUS databases, including LEARN360, APTPLUS Digital Library and APTPLUS Classroom, now available to teachers statewide.  Strengthening the connection between the classroom and home by accessing the same content in APTPLUS engages parents in the learning process.

WINNING TEACHER TESTIMONIALS

“I will definitely continue to encourage parents to use APTPLUS.  I use APTPLUS nearly every other week in my classroom.  Students that need extra help with a concept can benefit tremendously from this program.  It also allows the parents to have a personal connection to their child’s education.”

“I will definitely continue to tell my parents about this resource.  I plan to add the link to my class website and incorporate the information into my back to school packet.”

“The contest was a fabulous motivational strategy.  Most families in our community have internet access.  Once I explained the value of the resources, I even had a parent register from her phone during the middle of a Field Day!  Not only will my students have this new video equipment in their hands, they will have a wealth of new resources to carry with them through high school!!!!”

“Multimedia resources were introduced to some parents for the first time. Parents learned to identify what their child is taught in the classroom. I know that I will continue to motivate all who I come in contact with to use this and other multimedia resources.”

“My kids who have access to computers at home are starving for educational websites to go on. My parents have thanked me for providing them with these resources.  Before they were going to facebook, webkinz, and monsterhigh.com.  Now my kids are excited to come talk about what new thing they found on APTPLUS.  I let them go on the SMART board and pull up anything new they want to show the kids.”

“I think it would be good at the beginning of August (before school begins) to have another type of contest like this.  Teachers could include info about APTPLUS Learn360 in the beginning of the year letters/handbooks, etc.  If a flier could be developed for teachers to pass out early in the year, too, that would be great.  Most teachers have some sort of parent meeting early in the year/Open House, and it would be nice to have something to pass out to the parents.”

 PARENT REGISTRATION PROCESS IN APTPLUS
