Video Overview
In this segment of Highways and Byways, we see road construction continue to develop. Towns and cities in Alabama form and the population grows as the means of transportation shifts. Politicians get involved in the decision making about where roads will be constructed. The modern Interstate System is formed and north/south east/west interstates connect major cities throughout Alabama and the United States. This segment explains the interstate numbering system, including spurs, mile markers, and even how a road gets its name. Transportation officials provide information on the costs of highway construction and future plans for Alabama’s roads. >
