A Fresh Look at Teaching The Diary of Anne Frank

Ellie Kendrick as Anne Frank

On Wednesday, April 7 at 8 p.m. EDT, there will be a webinar entitled, "A Fresh Look at Teaching The Diary of Anne Frank." Webinar participants will get a sneak peek at the all-new adaptation airing on Masterpiece and review educator materials created for middle and high school. These materials include a teacher's guide created in collaboration with the Holocaust education organization Facing History & Ourselves as well as an omnibus Resources Listing, which collects the best existing resources on Anne Frank and her historical context and offers resources for teens interested in journaling with digital media. Speakers include the author of the teacher's guide and an educator from Facing History and Ourselves.

Video Diary Project
The Video Diary Project was designed to inspire fresh and diverse perspectives on The Diary of Anne Frank. Anne Frank was an amazing storyteller — and through her words, she inspired youth to document their thoughts on self-expression and tolerance. You can submit your own video diaries at:
http://www.thewgbhlab.org/open-call/masterpiece/masterpiece-video-diary
Select entries will be broadcast at the end of The Diary of Anne Frank on April 11th.

Additional Resources
MASTERPIECE collaborated with the Holocaust education organization, Facing History & Ourselves, on a teacher’s guide for The Diary of Anne Frank; interesting features include a Q&A with Francine Prose, author of the new book, Anne Frank: The Book, The Life, The Afterlife. Also in the works is a special Resources Listing targeted directly at youth and offering information for getting involved around issues of intolerance as well as expressing themselves with digital media. Finally, there is a discussion guide for book clubs. The teacher’s guide, book club materials, and resources are posted here( http://pbs.org/masterpiece/learn.)

Twitter Party
A live Twitter discussion will take place during the premiere of The Diary of Anne Frank. It will be moderated by @AnneFrankCenter, HolocaustMuseum, @PBS and @MasterpiecePBS. Encourage your viewers to participate by using the hashtag #annefrank_pbs . More details coming soon on the MASTERPIECE website: http://pbs.org/annefrank
